At Red Rock Recovery Center, we employ a tailored approach to treatment that applies evidence based practices to meet the distinctive needs of each of our clients. In addition to our other therapeutic modalities, Red Rock Recovery Center has partnered with Mount Moriah Stables to offer animal assisted therapy, specifically Equine Therapy as a tool for our clients to address the traumas often associated with substance use disorder.
Mount Moriah Stable is operated by a compassionate and professional team of women who understand the profound impact that animal assisted therapy can have on someone in the beginning stages of recovery. The Mount Moria team is led by:
Debra Plant, Owner, PATH Certified Equine Specialist in EFMHL, 20+ years experience in Breeding and Showing, Dressage, Western Pleasure, Jumping, Trotters & Pacers, and Riding Instructions.
Tristan Beymer, LCSW: Licensed Clinical Social Worker, providing Equine Facilitated Mental Health; Specializing in Marriage and Family Therapy, Trauma and Trauma Recovery Therapy, Addictions Counseling and Equine Professional.
Horses respond to the real person, a reflection of who we really are, and not through our self-generated identities. They have the capacity to experience our emotion and can actually feel the human heartbeat up to 75 yards away. Horses are prey animals, they survive, and are an exceptional tool to teaching us to not only survive, but to consciously interact with our surroundings.
Mount Moriah Stables has developed a series of equine-assisted exercises and activities to deepen each client’s self-awareness, to face personal issues, make sense of the thoughts they carry, address body tension/numbness, and to face the burdens of the past. The six-week course is designed to open doors of growth in a non-judgmental environment and to provide healing from within. Safety, trust and control become the foundation from which each individual will learn and grow within their environment.
Individuals who participate in the equine process can expect to gain a deeper sense of self-awareness. These individuals will learn what personal safety, trust, and control really means. They will learn to develop clearer and more direct communication, set solid boundaries, and enhance their mental focus and confidence. This can be difficult to experience in an office setting. Once experienced, this intervention can be processed with an individual therapist. Each participant can expect behaviors to be altered and the past healed – no longer dictating their daily life.
I had hit rock bottom and had to get away from my environment and triggers of my home town. Red Rock was there for me. They lovingly helped me change my life and learn to care for and about myself. For that I am forever grateful to Red Rock and their amazing team. I now have the life I have always wanted but never knew I deserved.
I have been working with Red Rock since we opened our doors and I can say it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I truly look forward to coming to work everyday, which I realize is something that not everyone can say. I get the opportunity to watch young men and women transform their lives on a daily basis. The growth that we see here is pure and unparalleled. I will always be grateful to have been a part of our process here.
Red Rock has given me the tools to truly be sober. The combination of groups, sober living and working the 12 steps has allowed me to start a new lifestyle that's not only healthy but fulfilling. I know I made the right choice on coming to Red Rock and am excited about my future.
When I arrived I made a decision to surrender to this process completely because I knew this was life or death. My goal was to stop being a slave to drugs and alcohol because I knew they were ruining my life and hurting my loved ones. This program gave me not only that miracle, but SO much more.
